Idyllic trips to cottage country and exotic overseas getaways are great and all, but there are plenty of exciting adventures to be had right here at home, too. This time of year, there’s so much to discover in Toronto. Here are the must-see new attractions and events taking place in the city this spring.
Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room – Let’s Survive Forever at the Art Gallery of Ontario
The Buzz: Loved last year’s Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario? You’ll be pleased to know that the popular Japanese artist now has a permanent work on display at the AGO. The space, entitled Infinity Mirrored Room – Let’s Survive Forever, will be open to the public starting May 25, 2019, and entrance to the stunning mirrored room is included with general admission.
Plus, in case you haven’t heard, the gallery is revamping its admissions and membership program this month. Anyone 25 and under can visit for free, and the new AGO Annual Pass will cost just $35 and include admission to all special exhibitions.
UpMarket, The Flower Edit at Yorkville Village
The Buzz: Next month, the UpMarket summer market series will be back at Yorkville Village. The Flower Edit, which will take place in June (more details will be released online here) will feature a curated selection of local fashion, lifestyle and food vendors and makers. Perfect for some lunchtime browsing or easy Father’s Day gift shopping.
The new beauty hall at Holt Renfrew Bloor
The Buzz: This brand new, beautiful space at the Bloor Street West location of Holt Renfrew offers an unparalleled luxury beauty experience. There are facials by Chanel, exclusive products not available anywhere else in Canada, and plenty of personalization and customization opportunities.
Ai Weiwei: Unbroken at the Gardiner Museum
The Buzz: Until June 9, 2019, you can see the groundbreaking ceramic works of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei at the Gardiner Museum in downtown Toronto. Some of the important themes explored include social justice, immigration and freedom of speech—but there’s also a series of Chinese zodiac-inspired images made of LEGO.
The Food District at Square One
The Buzz: This new indoors food hall is a must-visit if you’re in Mississauga. Inside the 34,000-square-foot space, there’s everything from a gourmet olive oil shop to fun eateries such as La Carnita and Plancha. Plus, The Food District offers ticketed and complimentary culinary activities, such as cooking classes and tastings.
