This week, Toronto Fashion Week and RE\SET collaborated for the first time to host Fall 2018 runway shows and presentations, the open-to-the-public RE\SET Designer Showroom, and a number of Fashion Talks hosted by the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) at Yorkville Village. Seventeen designers and brands from across Canada showed their menswear, womenswear and unisex collections this season. The clothes won’t start hitting store shelves until late summer, but in the meantime, we’ve rounded up the best styling inspiration from the runway, because it’s never too early to up your style game.

1. Not sure how to jazz up your plain sweatshirts? Wear them with black patent-leather, like these cropped trousers by Hilary MacMillan, which are a dream for those work-to-cocktail days.

2. Spotted at Unttld: the best accessory to pair with your favourite velvet evening pieces just might be a fringed headband, rather than your usual statement jewelry.

3. Hayley Elsaesser’s poppy and playful fall collection reminds us that red and pink really do look fantastic together.

4. The wild, graphic makeup at WRKDEPT was just for show, but it’s definitely time to start rocking coloured tights again, ideally as part of an edgy, colour-blocked ensemble.

5. It’s not too late to jump on the ’90s-inspired fanny-pack trend! We love the cross-body styling and sleek design of this bag at the Andrew Coimbra x Uncuffed show.

6. To update the black pencil skirt in your work wardrobe, why not pair it with an elevated anorak? This fantastic snake-print style by Andrew Coimbra won’t be available for a few months, but a girl can always make plans…

7. Despite the cold, now is the perfect time to bring out some of your shoulder-baring spring clothes. Just layer them with a crisp white shirt, as seen at Nonie.
